Sustainable Fitness

We’re so glad you care about the environment enough to look in detail at the companies you buy from.

We believe it is our duty to question every single item we buy: what is it made from? What happens to it at the end of life? How much net carbon will this release into the atmosphere?

So, to answer those questions…

Climate Neutral fitness

Form is a Climate Neutral certified fitness company, our aim is to offset and reduce our carbon emissions to net-zero. We do this in a number of ways:

Our Climate Neutral Certification

First we calculated our carbon emissions:

  • We used Climate Neutral’s methodology which calculates total carbon emissions based on COGS (cost of goods sold) - a measurement of how much our mats cost us to produce

  • We also independently calculated our carbon emissions to ensure we offset more than enough. To do this we used the embodied energy of the material used in our mats (the amount of energy consumed by extracting, processing and transporting the material) + carbon emitted by transport from our factory in Asia to our warehouse in England (we ship by sea to reduce transport emissions) + carbon emitted by transportation from our warehouse to our customers

The figures from both methods are similar; we then offset this through Climate Neutral’s offset programme, receiving verified carbon credits (meaning it actually works!). This year, Climate Neutral offsets through 3 main projects:

  • Grouped Small Hydro, China (21%) - providing clean energy for China’s remote mountain communities.

  • Forestry Conservation, Zimbabwe (54%) - working to maintain carbon sinks by keeping forests standing while providing alternative sources of income and protecting vulnerable species in Northern Zimbabwe.

  • Sustainable Waste Management, India (25%) - producing energy from poultry litter and discarded rice husks.

Recycled materials

Our mats are made from 100% human-friendly, recycled materials:

  • The base of all our mats are made from recycled natural tree rubber

  • The grippy top is made from recycled plastic bottles (Pro & Travel mats) or biodegradable PU (Onyx mats)

Many mats on the market today are made from PVC or other toxic materials, meaning you may be harming your health rather than improving it when you workout!

Our mats are free from silicone, toxic glue and phthalates so you can get your sweat on in peace

Recyclable or biodegradable

We hate landfill! We don’t believe anything we buy today should be designed in a way meaning it cannot be easily recycled or biodegraded at the end of life.

We design all our mats to be durable last many years (no planned obsolescence here), when it does eventually come to the end of your mats life:

  • The rubber base of the Pro collection can be recycled

  • Onyx mat can be biodegraded - in normal soil conditions, our Onyx mats completely disappear within 2 to 5 years

Packaging

We hate plastic packaging. Why should something that is used just once, last forever? Plastic packaging, no thank you!

We worked hard to ensure there is zero plastic used in our packaging, it wasn’t easy! Plastic is still the standard option for most companies due to its low cost and durability

Our mats come in recyclable cardboard boxes sealed with biodegradable tape. Inside the box, you’ll find your mat wrapped in paper label - when you’re done ripping it open, you can put the whole lot in the recycling bin or compost!
