Although sometimes it doesn't feel like it, we all have the same number of hours in the day as Beyoncé AND we don't have to deal with the costume changes. With our busy jobs, trying to keep up with friends and family, as well as make it through that final season of Narcos, life can often feel a little overwhelming. So how can you make sure you don't burn out completely, whilst making the most out of those 24 precious hours you've been given to live another day on planet earth. Keep reading:
Wake Up Early
It's well known that 'the early bird catches the worm' and we believe it's true. Instead of rolling out of bed and straight to work, waking up slightly earlier can give you that extra bit of time to mentally and physically prepare yourself for the day ahead.
This shouldn't come at the expense of sleep as rest is one of the most important aspects of our health, so you may need to start going to bed earlier to allow this to happen. Instead of spending those precious extra minutes catching up with 'I'm a Celebrity', why not save them for the morning when you can use them to give yourself a head start.
The Golden Hour
We're not suggesting you get up a whole hour early, unless you're super keen. But taking the time in the morning to prepare for the day has proven benefits for your mental and physical health and well-being. Take the morning slowly, waking up already in a rush sets us up for a rushed and stressful day. Spend some quality time on yourself and see results instantly.
Form's Top 6 Morning Rituals:
1. Drink water
Before you go to sleep, leave a pint of water next to your bed for when you wake up. By drinking water as soon as you wake up, you instantly re-hydrate the body and the brain, giving you the energy and focus you need.
Meditating as soon as you wake up gives your brain time to reset, clear the mind and focus. We like to use the Headspace app, but you can also learn how to do on your own, or find videos on YouTube. We recommend getting out of bed to meditate and sitting on a comfortable chair or meditation cushion. Stay in bed at your own risk of falling back to sleep - you have been warned.
3. Wim Hof
The benefits of the Wim Hof method are vast, and really can change your life. Some of these benefits include: boosting your immune system; improving your mental health; increasing sports performance; improving sleep; and increasing your energy levels. You can read more about the Wim Hof method, and how to do it, here.
4. Visually look at your goals
Visualising your goals is one of the most powerful things you can do. Waking up and seeing what you are working towards motivates you and gives you a sense of purpose. It's a technique that is used by successful people all over the world; join world-class Olympic athletes to the CEOs of Silicon Valley and make yourself a dream board. Many people may be skeptical about this, but there's a reason that people continue to do it - they see results. If you want to know more about how to make a dream board, read this.
5. Watch a motivational video
Watching a short motivational speech or TED talk on YouTube is a great way to get you motivated before starting your day. It helps get you in an optimistic mindset, giving you a positive outlook on your day ahead. You will also learn something, which can give you a sense of achievement even before you've had your breakfast!
6. Write down your top 3-5 tasks for the day
To do lists can get long. Too long. Having an overwhelming and unachievable amount of tasks in front of you is not a productive way to start the day, making you feel like you will never be successful and often leading to procrastination instead. Make your list manageable and you will feel instantly more motivated to complete it. Pick your top 3-5 tasks that you MUST get done today. By focusing your brain on a smaller list, you can clear out all the other unimportant, distracting tasks along with the stress of feeling like you will never finish, giving your brain space to think and focus. You will feel a great sense of achievement too, when you finally see everything crossed off your list!
